A multipoint lock that's getting stiffer is telling you it's about to fail, usually because a dropped door is forcing the gearbox to fight its keeps every time you lift the handle. Once the gearbox strips, the door is either stuck shut or, worse, won't lock at all. An unlockable door is an insecure home, so we treat failed multipoints as a 24/7 callout, alongside our emergency glazing service: call and we'll secure the door tonight, not next week. The repair itself is a matching gearbox or full multipoint strip, the keeps re-aligned, and a TS 007 3-star anti-snap cylinder upgrade while the door furniture is off.

Every uPVC and composite door settles over time: the glass or slab pulls the sash into a parallelogram and the lock side drops. The fix is door alignment: we adjust the flag hinges in three axes, and where the slab itself has settled we "toe and heel" it, repositioning the packers under the glazing so the door pulls back square. Twenty minutes to an hour, and the door closes with a fingertip again. Left unfixed, a dropped door destroys its own gearbox (see symptom 01), so this cheap repair is the one that prevents the expensive one.
03 The handle is floppy, droopy or spinningHangs at half mast, rattles, or turns without resistance
A drooping handle is usually worn handle springs: a cheap, quick swap for a new sprung handle set, matched to your door's 92 mm or 122 mm centres. A handle that spins freely is more serious: the spindle or the gearbox follower has stripped inside the multipoint. We diagnose which it is on the spot and carry both handles and common gearboxes on the van. If your door was fine yesterday and floppy today after a break-in attempt, call us: that pattern often means the lock was attacked, and we'll check the cylinder and keeps too.

Draughts and leaks on a uPVC door come from three places: gaskets that have shrunk and hardened, a door that's lost compression through misalignment, or blocked drainage slots forcing rainwater over the threshold instead of out through the frame. We renew the gasket in a continuous run of the correct profile, re-set the compression via hinges and keeps, and clear or re-drill the drainage. French doors get their meeting-stile seals and weatherboards checked too (the classic leak point).

Bifold doors run on carriages and guides that collect grit and wear at the pivot points. We re-set the panel geometry (intermediate carriers drift out of plumb), replace worn carriages and guides, clean and lubricate the track, and re-time the shootbolts so every panel locks as it should: bifold door repair in London for aluminium and uPVC systems alike. Most bifold faults are running gear, not the doors themselves, so repair beats replacement by a wide margin.

Why do I have to lift my uPVC door handle so hard to lock it?
The door has dropped out of alignment, so the multipoint hooks are fighting their keeps. Forcing the handle daily is what eventually snaps the gearbox. Realignment (adjusting the hinges and re-packing the glazing where needed) is a quick, inexpensive fix that saves the lock.
My uPVC door won't lock at all, is that urgent?
Yes. A door that won't lock is an insecure door, and we treat it as an emergency: call 07399 253464 and we attend 24/7, usually within the hour in Central and North London. We can secure the door on the first visit even when a special-order gearbox is needed.
Can a dropped uPVC door be fixed without replacing it?
Almost always. A dropped door is corrected by adjusting the flag hinges and, where the sash itself has settled, by toe-and-heeling: re-packing the glass on its glazing blocks to pull the slab square. The door then closes and locks without force again.
Do you repair composite and aluminium doors too?
Yes. Composite doors use the same multipoint locks and cylinders as uPVC, and we also repair aluminium, timber, bifold, French and sliding patio doors: locks, hinges, rollers, closers and seals across the lot.
My patio door is really heavy to slide, can it be saved?
Yes, that's worn rollers, not a worn door. We lift the sliding panel out, replace the tandem rollers underneath, clean or dress the track and re-set the panel height. Doors people have wrestled with for years glide on a finger afterwards.
Should I upgrade my euro cylinder while you're there?
If your door still has a basic cylinder, yes: cylinder snapping remains a common burglary method in London. We fit TS 007 3-star anti-snap cylinders as a standard upgrade during any door repair, keyed alike with other doors if you want one key for the house.
