- Police first. If the intruder may still be there, call 999. Otherwise call 101 for a crime reference number. Let the police see the point of entry before it is touched.
- Call us. You get a fixed price before we set off, and there is no call-out fee.
- Photos of the damage. Taken as we find it, for your insurer.
- New lock, new keys. Forced cylinders are replaced, usually with an anti-snap cylinder, and the gearbox and keeps checked so every locking point engages.
- Glass and frame too. If the door glass or a window was broken, we glaze it from van stock or board it up until the new glass is made.
- Paperwork. An itemised invoice and photos for your claim.
uPVC & composite doors
When the door will not lock
Most "the lock is broken" calls on uPVC and composite doors are not the cylinder at all. If the handle will not lift, or you have to force it, the door has usually dropped on its hinges or the multipoint gearbox inside the door has failed. Forcing it finishes the gearbox off. Do you really answer at night?
Yes. The phone is answered 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and we usually reach Central and North London within the hour. There is no call-out fee, and you get a fixed price on the phone before we travel.
Can you change my locks after a break-in?
Yes. Forced or snapped cylinders are replaced, damaged keeps and gearboxes renewed, and if the frame or glass is broken we secure or board it on the same visit. We photograph the damage first and give you an itemised invoice for your insurer.
What is an anti-snap cylinder and do I need one?
Lock snapping is a common way in through uPVC and composite doors: the cylinder is broken at its weak point and turned. An anti-snap cylinder is designed to break away at a sacrificial point and still lock. If yours is a basic cylinder, an upgrade is quick and we carry them on the van.
My uPVC door will not lock. Is that a locksmith job?
Usually it is the multipoint gearbox or the door has dropped, not the cylinder. We realign the door or replace the gearbox, often on the same visit, so the door locks again without forcing the handle.
Can you help if I am locked out?
Call us and tell us about the door and the lock. We will tell you straight away whether it is a job for us. Where a lock has failed or been damaged, we replace it on the spot with new keys.
Do you secure shops and offices too?
Yes. Shop doors, office entrances and communal doors to flats are secured, and broken glass in them is boarded or replaced. One call covers the glass and the lock.
