Islington is one of the most glazed-in boroughs we work in: tall Georgian sashes in the squares, conversions with a different window on every floor, and Upper Street shopfronts that take a knock most weekends.

The houses

Squares, conversions and mansion blocks

Barnsbury, Canonbury and the streets round Angel are full of late Georgian and early Victorian terraces with tall timber sashes. Much of the borough sits in conservation areas, so the front of those houses usually has to stay as it is. Further north, Holloway, Tufnell Park and Archway bring Victorian conversions and purpose-built blocks.

Sash windows

New timber sashes to the original glazing bars, or the existing ones overhauled, draught-sealed and reglazed.

Secondary glazing

The answer where the front windows cannot change: a slim inner window that cuts noise from Holloway Road and Essex Road.

Conservation areas

We tell you what is likely to be allowed before you spend anything, and quote for frames that keep the street's look.

Emergency glazing

A smashed pane or a forced door made safe the same night, reglazed or boarded until the glass is cut.

Islington questions

Can I have double glazing in a Georgian house in Islington?

Often yes, as slim double glazed units in new timber sashes made to the old pattern. If the house is listed or the council will not allow it, secondary glazing inside the original window gives most of the warmth and quiet without touching the outside.

Do you work for leaseholders in converted flats?

Regularly. Many Islington houses are split into flats, so we check the lease, give the managing agent our method statement and insurance details, and keep shared hallways clean.

How fast can you get to Angel or Highbury at night?

We plan on 45 to 60 minutes from Wood Green for an emergency anywhere in Islington, often quicker overnight when the roads are clear.

Can you replace a shopfront pane on Upper Street?

Yes. We board it the same night if the glass has to be made, then fit toughened or laminated glass cut to the opening.
