Double glazing and glazing repairs in Enfield.

Enfield is a short run north from our Wood Green workshop, and it is one of the boroughs we work in most. The reason is the housing: street after street of interwar semis whose original windows are now well past the end of their life.

Why Enfield is mostly a window replacement borough

Enfield expanded hard between the wars, and it shows. Bush Hill Park, Winchmore Hill, Southgate and much of Enfield Town are dominated by 1930s semis with bay windows to the front and metal or early timber casements behind. A lot of those were replaced once in the eighties or nineties, which means the replacements are themselves now thirty years old and blown.

That gives us three jobs more than any others in the borough: full window replacement on tired 1930s semis, bay window work where the original bay has dropped, and sealed unit swaps where the frames are still fine and only the glass has failed.

Bay windows

The defining feature of the Enfield semi, and the one most often done badly. A bay carries load, so it is replaced in stages with the structure supported, not ripped out in one go.

Double glazing

A-rated units in uPVC, aluminium or timber, made in our own workshop and FENSA certified on completion.

Misted units

If the eighties frames are still straight, you do not need new windows. We swap the sealed unit and leave the frame, at a fraction of the cost.

Flush sash

On an interwar elevation a flush casement reads like the original joinery. A stormproof one reads like a replacement from across the road.

Questions

Glazing in Enfield, answered

Do you charge for travel to Enfield?
No. Enfield is inside our standard coverage from Wood Green, for surveys, installation and emergency callouts alike.
How much does double glazing cost in Enfield?
It depends on the number of openings, the frame material and whether there is a bay involved, so a figure before survey would be a guess. Bays cost more than flat openings because of the structural work. Our glazier cost guide sets out honest London numbers.
Can you replace the bay window on a 1930s semi?
Yes, and it is one of the jobs we do most in Enfield. A bay carries load from above, so it is done in stages with the structure properly supported. It is not a job for anyone who wants to take the whole thing out at once.
My windows were replaced in the nineties and have gone cloudy. Do I need new ones?
Often not. If the frames are straight and the hardware works, the failure is in the sealed unit, and we can replace the glass in the existing frame. We will tell you honestly at survey which of the two jobs yours needs.
Do you cover Palmers Green and Winchmore Hill?
Yes, along with Southgate, Bush Hill Park, Enfield Town, Oakwood, Edmonton and Ponders End. All of it is standard coverage.
