Hampstead and Highgate are two hilltop villages full of houses that are older than the glass in most of London. Most of the work here is careful: keeping original windows going, quieting them, and fitting new doors that look right on the street.
The houses
Listed fronts and conservation streets
Church Row in Hampstead is an early Georgian terrace, and much of both villages is made up of Georgian, Victorian and Arts and Crafts houses. Nearly all of it sits in conservation areas, and a good share is listed, so replacement windows on the front are the exception. Repair, reglazing and secondary glazing are the rule.
