How quickly can you secure a smashed shopfront in London?
Typically within the hour, 24/7. We clear the broken glass, make the opening safe and board it with 12-18 mm OSB or ply cut on site, so the premises are secure and weatherproof the same night. Boarding is neat enough to trade behind while your replacement glass is made.
How long does replacement toughened shopfront glass take?
Toughened glass can't be cut after tempering, so every shopfront pane is made to order, typically 3-5 working days for standard 10-12 mm clear toughened, a little longer for oversize, curved or printed panes. We board the same night, measure precisely, and return to fit the moment your glass arrives, out of hours if that suits trading.
Should a shopfront be toughened or laminated glass?
Both satisfy safety glazing rules, but they behave differently. Toughened shopfront glass is the standard choice: very strong, and it crumbles safely if broken. Laminated glass holds together on its interlayer when attacked, so it's often specified where security or ram-raid risk is the bigger worry. Many London shopfronts use toughened outer panes with laminated glass in doors and lower panels; we advise per site.
Can you repair or match my existing aluminium shopfront?
Usually, yes. We repair and re-glaze existing aluminium shopfront frames, replace beads, gaskets and door hardware, and colour-match sections in standard RAL finishes. Where a frame is beyond economic repair we install complete new aluminium shopfront systems, surveyed and fabricated to your opening.
What are the manifestation markings required on shopfront glass?
Large transparent panes that people could walk into must carry visibility markings (manifestation) under Approved Document K of the Building Regulations, with the same duty for workplaces under Regulation 14 of the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992. Markings sit at two bands, roughly 850-1000 mm and 1400-1600 mm from floor level. We apply compliant manifestation to every full-height pane we fit, plain or branded.
Will my insurance cover shopfront glass replacement?
Most commercial policies cover glass breakage from break-ins, vandalism and accidents. We support the claim with a photographed damage report, itemised estimate and completion invoice, and we can deal with your insurer or loss adjuster directly. You decide whether to claim once you've seen our fixed price.
