The catalogue

Four casement styles, one made-to-measure frame.

A casement window is simply a sash hinged to a frame, but where you put the hinge changes how the window lives. Most London frames combine two or three of these styles side by side, so you rarely have to choose just one.

Side hung

Side hung casement

Hinged at the side, opens like a door for maximum airflow and the clear escape opening bedrooms need. Egress hinges fitted where Building Regulations require them.

Top hung

Top hung casement

Hinged at the top so it can sit open in light rain without letting water in. The usual choice over kitchen sinks, in bathrooms and across wide openings.

Flush

Flush casement

The sash closes perfectly level with the frame face: the flat, traditional profile pre-war London streets were built with, now available in uPVC, aluminium and timber.

Fixed light

Fixed light

No hinge at all, just glass and daylight. Paired with opening sashes to keep sightlines slim and cost down where ventilation is not needed.

The detail that changes the look

Flush vs stormproof casements

Both are proper casement windows; the difference is how the sash meets the frame. It is worth deciding before you get quotes, because it changes the kerb-side character of the whole house.

uPVC, aluminium or timber casements

uPVC casement windows

The best-value route: 70mm multi-chambered profile, A-rated 28mm double glazing (around 1.2 W/m²K), white, anthracite or woodgrain foils. Made to measure by our sister company Prime Fabrication, typically fitted within 7-10 days.

Aluminium casement windows

Slim sightlines and big glass. Thermally broken frames in any RAL colour carry larger panes than uPVC can, which suits modern extensions and wide openings.

Timber casement windows

Engineered timber flush casements with factory-finished paint: the conservation-area answer, and the longest-lived window on the page when maintained.

Questions

Casement windows, answered

What is the difference between flush and stormproof casements?
On a flush casement the opening sash closes level with the frame face, the flat, traditional look found on cottages and pre-war London houses. On a stormproof (lipped) casement the sash overlaps the frame, giving an extra weather check. Flush wins on looks and is often required in conservation areas; stormproof is the modern default and usually costs slightly less.
Should I choose side hung or top hung casements?
Side hung sashes open like a door and give the biggest clear opening, which matters for fire escape from bedrooms. Top hung sashes hinge at the top, can be left cracked open in the rain, and suit wide openings. Most London windows combine both with fixed lights in one frame.
Are casement windows more secure than sash windows?
Generally yes. A casement sash pulls into the frame on multi-point espagnolette locking with mushroom cams, and the glass is internally beaded so it cannot be removed from outside. PAS 24 upgrades with laminated glass are available for ground floors and windows above flat roofs.
Do new casement windows need trickle vents?
Under Part F of the Building Regulations, replacement windows in England normally need background ventilation, usually a slim trickle vent in the frame head, unless equivalent ventilation exists elsewhere. We size and position vents at survey so they meet the regulation without spoiling the elevation, and your FENSA certificate confirms compliance.
How long does casement window installation take in London?
Typical lead time is 7-10 days from survey for uPVC and aluminium frames, made to measure by our sister company Prime Fabrication, and 4-6 weeks for timber. Fitting a whole house usually takes 1-2 days, with each opening weather-tight the same day.
